Sometimes when I go to church, I feel like a child at school that’s just been called into the principals office. And when I leave, I feel like I have been put down and chastised rather than lifted up and encouraged. I don’t leave feeling blessed. Perhaps you’ve had the same experience. It isn’t supposed to be this way.
I have been a Christian since I was in my teens. I regularly attended church. But the people I attended church with seemed just like all the other people I knew. There was no joy. No real peace. And very little genuine love. But there were lots of rules and rituals. Something was clearly wrong.
Around age 45, I was reading in the NIV version of the Bible where in John 10:10 Jesus says “. . . I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” And in Galatians 5:21-12 Paul writes, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” This is NOT what I saw around me.
Now as a teenager, I had spend countless hours trying to reconcile science with religion, and I had fairly well succeeded in that endeavor. Now I had a new challenge: to reconcile what I saw within the church with the promise of Life to the Full. I had enough faith to believe that God didn’t lie, so if the Bible makes a promise, that promise can be fulfilled. But how? Thus began my quest, and my journey into scripture.
It took a long time, but I was ultimately able to get some satisfying answers. It took several years, and I have been perfecting my findings for two decades. For me, the results were truly life changing. I now enjoy love, joy, and peace, and a life that is full and satisfying. Not perfect. But much, much better than where I began. And my passion is to share what what I discovered with others.
That’s why I started Triumphant Living. It is a Coaching and Teaching practice designed to walk with others along the path that I have forged through the scriptures. I invite you to take that journey with me by your side.
